【摘要】:Thistestmethodprovidesameansforthecomparisonofwaterborneoilsampleswithpotentialsources.Thewaterbornesamplesmaybeemulsifiedinwaterorobtainedfrombeaches,boats,oil-soakeddebris,andsoforth.Theunknownoilisidentifiedbythesimilarityofitsinfraredspectrumwiththatofapotentialsourceoilobtainedfromaknownsource,selectedbecauseofitspossiblerelationshiptotheunknownoil.Theanalysisiscapableofcomparingmostoils.Difficultiesmaybeencounteredifaspilloccursinanalreadypollutedarea,thatis,thespilled-oilmixeswithanotheroil.Incertaincases,theremaybeinterferingsubstanceswhichrequiremodificationoftheinfraredtestmethodortheuseofothertestmethods(seePracticeD3326,MethodD.)Itisdesirable,wheneverpossible,toapplyotherindependentanalyticaltestmethodstoreinforcethefindingsoftheinfraredtestmethod(seePracticeD3415).1.1Thistestmethodprovidesameansfortheidentificationofwaterborneoilsamplesbythecomparisonoftheirinfraredspectrawiththoseofpotentialsourceoils.1.2Thistestmethodisapplicabletoweatheredorunweatheredsamples,aswellastosamplessubjectedtosimulatedweathering.1.3Thistestmethodiswrittenprimarilyforpetroleumoils.1.4Thistestmethodiswrittenforlineartransmission,butcouldbereadilyadaptedforlinearabsorbanceoutputs.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.SpecificprecautionarystatementsaregiveninSection8.
